On Thursday 7 September 2023, the City of Esch-sur-Alzette announced the extension of the Vëlodukt-Ride bicycle taxi project until 14 October 2023.

The Vëlodukt-Ride project was launched on 1 July 2023 and connects the Place de la Résistance to the “Universitéit” district via the Vëlodukt cycling bridge.

The Vëlodukt-Ride project will continue to operate on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 14 October with departures every 30 minutes from 12:00 until 17:30. The three vehicles, which can carry two passengers, are propelled by electric assistance. The service is completely free and operates on a “first come, first served” basis. The Vëlodukt-Ride project is operated by the City of Esch-sur-Alzette in collaboration with Centre d’Initiative et de Gestion Local (CIGL) from Esch-sur-Alzette.

During the period from 1 July to 31 August 2023, the Vëlodukt-Ride carried a total of 1,298 passengers. During this period, 753 trips were made from Brill to Belval, while 543 trips were made from Belval to Brill. This average equates to almost 50 passengers per day for just six hours of daily service.
