From Thursday 11 March to Friday 9 April 2021, the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) is carrying out road widening works on Rue du Fossé, aimed at providing pedestrians and cyclists more space in the capital.

These works will affect the section between Place Guillaume II and the Grand-Rue on Rue du Fossé in Luxembourg-Ville. The works form part of the transformation of Rue du Fossé into a meeting zone (works which commenced in November 2020) and aim to further harmonise the sharing of public space between pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

The works concern the widening of the roadway on the odd-numbered side, giving more space to cyclists who will then also be able to travel from Grand-Rue to Place Guillaume II in the opposite direction.

The works will take place in three successive phases:

1) Preparation work from 11 to 19 March 2021: Rue du Fossé will remain accessible to all road users. Safety dividers will be put in place along the existing borders before removing the border from the odd-numbered side. A secure passage for pedestrians will be guaranteed;

2) Street blockade from 22 March to 3 April 2021: Rue du Fossé will be closed to all traffic during this period to allow the raising of the roadway and the implementation of the wearing course;

3) Finishing work from 6 to 9 April 2021: Rue du Fossé will once again be open to traffic. However, there will still be some finishing work to be done: partial replacement of the slabs, adaptations of the paving stones around the trees, etc.

During all the aforementioned phases, deliveries to shops will remain possible.

Appropriate signage will be put in place during the various work phases.

In addition, the following changes will affect public transport during phase 2 of the works (i.e. from 22 March to 3 April):

- Lines 19 and 31 will no longer serve the Cathédrale, Gruef, Kasinosgaass and Badanstalt Quai 2 bus stops. Replacement stops: Hamilius Quai 1 for line 19 and Forum Royal for line 31;

- On Saturdays and Sundays, the City Shopping Bus will run along the "short route" and will serve the city centre only at the Beaumont stop.
