The municipality of Boulaide (canton of Wiltz) has recalled that its petition calling for better public transport connections to the Stauséi (Upper Sûre Lake) in northern Luxembourg will run until the end of this month.

One of the main aims of Petition 1506 is to reduce traffic congestion around this popular leisure spot through improved accessibility to the region by public transport. Proposals include the installation of a Park & Ride hub at Poteau de Harlange, the creation of a new express bus line from the "Stäreplaz" interchange to the new Poteau de Harlange interchange ("Stauséi West") and the extension of the 903 express line to Bonnal ("Stauséi Sud"). The petition also proposes the maintenance of bus line 820 Boulaide - Colmar / Usines with a future departure from the Poteau de Harlange interchange hub and an extension to the Bissen / Colmar-Berg business and industrial zones, as well as the establishment of a new transversal bus line "Arlon - Stauséi West - Wiltz" connecting universities and secondary schools, as well as the business and industrial zones of Riesenhaff, Flatzbour, Fléiber (PAG), Nothum and Salzbaach.

The petition also aims to achieve the targets set in the climate and energy action framework by 2030 and the Modu 2.0 sustainable mobility strategy. To achieve this, it suggests the creation of an efficient RGTR network adapted to the needs of the 21st century for the inhabitants of the Lac de la Haute-Sûre region and easy access for citizens and visitors to recreational, sports and leisure activities in the Upper Sûre Natural Park and in the cities of Luxembourg, Mersch and Arlon.

Launched in March, the petition is open until 30 July 2020. Further details are also available on the website https://stausei.lu/.

Recent incidents regarding excessive traffic and crowds of visitors reportedly failing to respect the COVID-19 sanitary measures in force have brought this petition to the forefront once again. Visitors to the Stauséi on weekends now have to reserve a spot online in advance.
