Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Ministers François Bausch and Dan Kersch held a press briefing on the subject of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and the government's exit strategy on Friday afternoon.

François Bausch, who is also Minister of Mobility, began by stressing that anyone using public transport from Monday 20 April 2020 must wear a face mask which covers the nose and mouth. Those who do not respect this new measure face a €149 fine. Face masks are also obligatory in supermarkets, bakeries and markets, among other establishments.

Deputy Prime Minister Bausch went on to recall that construction sites will reopen on Monday, as part of the first stage of the Luxembourg government's exit strategy. Priority will be given to important construction sites, such as motorway works and the development of the tram network. François Bausch added that the Luxembourg Army had already helped distribute masks across the sector.

For his part, Luxembourg's Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Dan Kersch, presented the new measures being put in place to protect construction workers, who will receive training and have access to disinfectant and masks on site. In addition, physical distance will be prioritised and safety equipment adapted according to the evolution of the current health crisis. Minister Kersch added that employers and trade unions in Luxembourg were set to reach an agreement on these new safety measures.
