On Wednesday 28 August 2024, the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture provided an update on the spread of bluetongue (BTV serotype 3) in Luxembourg.
Concerning the spread of bluetongue (BTV serotype 3) in Luxembourg, the reference laboratory confirmed that 492 animals (361 cattle, 125 sheep and six goats) have tested positive for bluetongue since 1 August 2024. The virus has been detected on 246 farms.
From Tuesday 20 to Tuesday 27 August 2024, a further 153 animals tested positive for bluetongue, and the virus was found on 66 additional farms. Since the start of the vaccination campaign on 9 August 2024, 240,000 doses of vaccine have been delivered and 70,000 doses distributed to veterinarians.
ALVA emphasised that livestock owners should immediately report increased mortality rates in their herd.
