On Wednesday 26 May 2021, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health reported 90 new COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections; there have been 812 fatalities (no new deaths since Tuesday) resulting from the virus to date.

90 Luxembourg residents tested positive on Wednesday from a total of 8,841 tests carried out the day before, representing 14.18 people per 100,000 inhabitants. The positivity rate was 1.02%. Wednesday 18 November 2020 marked the record daily high of 891 new cases.

The average daily increase (over a 7-day period) is currently 40.71.

A total of 34 people are in hospital with the virus, including seventeen patients in intensive care.

As per figures from Tuesday 25 May 2021, there are currently 1,223 active infections known, whilst a total of 67,634 people have recovered from the virus to date. The effective reproductive rate in Luxembourg stands at 0.74.

As of Tuesday, a total of 324,903 vaccinations had been carried out in Luxembourg (223,372 first doses, 101,531 second doses); 1,259 individuals received their first dose of the vaccine and 892 received their second dose on Tuesday.

The above graph shows the evolution of the spread of coronavirus in the Grand Duchy on a daily basis since 1 March 2020 (excluding 9 December, for which figures remain unknown), with the orange line showing the daily numbers averaged over the past week; the graph below shows the total figures (cumulative) over the same period.

Since 24 August 2020, the Ministry of Health's published figures only include resident infection numbers, as opposed to earlier figures which included both residents and non-residents (i.e. cross-border workers).

The Ministry of Health has provided clarification regarding the retro-correction of data in its COVID-19 reports. Following the increased use of self-tests as part of the fight against coronavirus in Luxembourg, it was decided not to count self-tests in the total number of new infections. Faced with these retro-corrections, a slight decrease of about 40 new infections appeared in the figures published recently in the daily and weekly reports. These 40 new infections resulting from self-test results have since been removed. New infections reported only refer to people having taken a PCR test (confirmed by a laboratory).
