More specifically for the month of November 2020, STATEC recorded 149 excess deaths compared to the 2018/19 average (up 34.9%)
Overall, Luxembourg witnessed a 31.2% increase in the number of deaths in November 2020 compared to the year before (404 deaths in 2019) and an increase of 48% compared to 2018 (358 deaths).
During the first wave of the pandemic (mid-March to May), there were 1,012 deaths, which corresponds to an excess mortality of around 14% compared to the two previous years. The number of excess deaths was particularly high in April 2020.
From August 2020, the number of reported deaths recorded was higher than in previous years. Between 1 August and the end of November 2020, 1,621 deaths were reported (compared to 1,410, on average, during the previous two years).
