Luxembourg's online booking platform for medical appointments, Doctena, has analysed the activity of medical practices following the end of lockdown.

For March and April, confinement was tough for medical practitioners. Indeed, as most of them had to close their practice or cancel the majority of their appointments, Doctena identified a major decrease of consultations of 66% between February and April 2020 in Luxembourg.

After the deconfinement announced beginning of May by the Luxembourg government, the number of consultations multiplied by 2.5 compared to April. This rise can be largely explained by the appointments patients need to catch up on as they had to stay home during the confinement period. From now on, patients can come back in the practice on the condition that they respect the health rules.

The large increase mainly concerns medical specialties involving manual care and that could not be carried out via video consultation. Doctena particularly identified a major demand for physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors (with +245% bookings compared to last month), ophthalmologists (+230% increase in appointments) and dentists (almost +605%). Other specialties such as dermatology, cardiology, aesthetic medicine and nutrition were also largely booked (average +200%).

The video consultation solution offered by Doctena will remain active even after the confinement period.
