Luxembourg's Prison Administration announced yesterday that an inmate of Schrassig Prison has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus).

According to the Prison Administration, the detainee in question was admitted to Schrassig Prison during the night of 18 April 2020. As foreseen by the current admission procedure, the prisoner was placed in a quarantine section dedicated to new arrivals which is isolated and separated from the other sections of the prison. During his detention, the prison learned that the individual in question had tested positive for COVID-19.

After a few hours of solitary confinement, the prison thus transferred the detainee to the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL).

In accordance with current prevention procedures, the Prison Administration confirmed that the new arrival had spent no time in contact with other prisoners. As foreseen by the procedures in place, prison officers who were in close contact with the detainee have since been in self-isolation in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Health.

According to the Prison Administration, preventive measures have so far made it possible to avoid the entry of COVID-19 and to maintain security and safety in Luxembourg's prisons.
