On Monday 20 April 2020, Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Minister of Health Paulette Lenert visited the mobile field hospital set up next to the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) in the context of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
Construction on the mobile hospital began last month in the authorities' efforts to supplement hospital capacities in the case of an overwhelming number of COVID-19 cases. The first part of the structure came into service on 30 March 2020.
The field hospital, built using material provided by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) in close collaboration with the Luxembourg Army, has around 40 beds at its disposal. The structure is composed of a sorting tent used to receive, assess, sort and direct patients who arrive at A&E. It also enables a separation of patients who have tested negative for COVID-19 and those who have tested positive or are suspected of having contracted the disease.
Around 50 fully trained caregivers are prepared to run the field hospital if necessary.
During their recent visit, guided by Paul Mousel, President of the Administrative Commission of the CHL, and members of the CHL management committee, Luxembourg's Prime Minister and Health Minister also had the chance to see the new scanner installed in a temporary facility opposite the sorting tent. The scanner has been operational since 9 April 2020, according to the CHL.
