The Luxembourg Army has announced that its is supporting Lithuania by offering support for the transport of medical materials.

In 2019, the Luxembourg army launched a Call for Tenders for access to civil strategic air transport capacity resulting in a service contract being concluded with company Cargolux.

Last month (March 2020), the Luxembourg army made this capacity available to nations members of the European Air Transport Command (EATC) and the Movement Control Center Europe (MCCE), two organisations of which Luxembourg is also a member.

As part of the COVID-19 crisis, a first flight was made on Easter weekend (12 April) transporting a cargo of medical equipment (100 tonnes) from the city of Zhengzhou (China) to Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital. A similar flight is planned for 16 April; other flights will follow.

The army statement concluded "Luxembourg is delighted to be able to offer useful capacity to the Allied Nations and the Member States of the European Union".
