The number of people having tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Luxembourg stands at 3,223 (up 108 from Thursday), including 54 fatalities (up from 52) resulting from the virus, as of 17:45 on Friday 10 April 2020.
Of those people having tested positive for coronavirus to date, 2,644 are residents and 579 are non-residents. The average age of those testing positive is 46, while the median age of the 54 victims (excluding one patient from the Grand Est) who lost their lives to the virus is 87 (the average age is 84). 234 people remain hospitalised at present in relation to COVID-19, including 32 patients (plus ten from the Grand Est) in intensive care. Nevertheless, 412 have been discharged from hospital.
In a press briefing held this evening, Luxembourg's Minister of Health Paulette Lenert stressed that while the number of new infections is slowly decreasing, the crisis is not yet over. She thus reiterated the importance of continuing to respect social distancing measures over the Easter break.
The Health Minister also recalled that emergency services and healthcare for non-COVID-19-related ailments remain operational. She added that hospitals and medical staff are well-equipped and available to take care of all patients.
Since the beginning of the crisis, Luxembourg has carried out a total of 28,273 tests (23,211 on residents, 5,062 on non-residents). On this subject, Paulette Lenert described the testing policy as "very generous", with the Grand Duchy carrying out six times as many tests as neighbouring countries. Concerning testing in care homes, the Health Minister confirmed that the authorities were prioritising the testing of staff in these and other care institutions.
As a reminder, the COVID-19 national hotline is 8002-8080; the hotline for calls made outside Luxembourg is +352-497-719200.
