Luxembourg's Ministry of Social Security has announced the introduction of a new nomenclature act for teleconsultation in the public health sector.

Considering the latest measures taken in the fight against coronavirus, a new act of nomenclature of doctors has been introduced for teleconsultation, including for the provision of medical prescriptions or incapacity for work declarations.

The new act C45 is thus aimed at encouraging doctors (general practitioners or specialists) to carry out their work using teleconsultation methods, such as telephone calls and video chat, in order to limit the number of face-to-face consultations. The cost of this new procedure will be aligned with that of regular GP and specialist consultations.

Nevertheless, the use of teleconsultation remains the choice of individual doctors who must judge the value of remote rather than face-to-face medical care. In order to provide quality care, the doctor performing this teleconsultation act must already know the patient.

The Ministry of Health will provide the doctors concerned with recommendations for good practice with regard to teleconsultation in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic.
