From 11 to 14 May 2019, Luxembourg will put diabetes research and treatment at the forefront with the organisation of an international event bringing together health professionals and experts in the field.

The event will open this Saturday 11 May at 09:00 with the national conference "Management of Diabetes: Prevent and Cure at Any Age". Organised by the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) with expert clinicians in Luxembourg, including Dr. Carine de Beaufort, Dr. Frédéric Dadoun and Dr. Jean Beissel, this conference is aimed at all health professionals in Luxembourg and the Greater Region involved in the treatment of diabetes. It will be an opportunity for an update on good practices in the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetic patients. The conference will be held in French.

At 14:00 on the same day, Luxembourg will host for the first time the European Diabetes Epidemiology Group (EDEG) International Congress, which aims to advance epidemiological research on diabetes, its risk factors and its complications. Bringing together nearly 150 international experts in the field of diabetes epidemiology, this conference, held in English, will also promote collaboration, discussion and the sharing of expertise and knowledge. The LIH Department of Population Health will co-organise this event with the EDEG. On this occasion, the LIH researchers will present research projects developed in this field in Luxembourg.

According to the International Diabetes Federation, in 2017, about 425 million adults had diabetes. By 2045, this figure will reach 629 million, the highest number of people with diabetes being between 40 and 59 years old. These events thus aim to better inform professionals in the field of the prevention and treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes.
