On Thursday 13 November 2025, Artec 3D hosted members of the media, including Chronicle.lu, for a guided tour of its production facility in Senningerberg.
Artec 3D is a Luxembourg-headquartered developer and manufacturer of professional 3D hardware and software. In January 2023, the company officially opened its optoelectronics production facility in Senningerberg. The site includes a 300 m2 clean room with an ISO 7 cleanliness classification, as well as customised temperature, pressure and humidity control. It also features a fully automatic in-house PCB (electronics) assembly line, alongside automated optical and mechanical assembly and QA lines designed to ensure high standards of production, safety and precision.
Well-known Artec 3D hardware products include: Artec Leo, a portable 3D scanner built around wireless technology and an integrated touchscreen; Ray II, a high-accuracy long-range 3D scanner for capturing large objects; Micro II, a desktop 3D scanner for automatically and accurately digitising very small objects; Eva, a device described as “fast, versatile and accurate” for capturing small and medium-sized objects; Spider II, designed for ultra-high resolution scanning of complex and intricate objects in full colour; Point, Artec 3D’s first industrial laser scanner featuring metrology-grade accuracy and resolution for reverse engineering and inspection in demanding use cases.
The programme on Thursday morning included a welcome coffee, a guided tour of the facility, a presentation and product demonstrations, as well as a Q&A session and a preview of upcoming projects. Attendees thus had the opportunity to observe how the company’s scanners are assembled and to speak directly with the management team.
Addressing the press, Sergey Sukhovey, founder and Chief Experience Officer at Artec 3D, reflected on the company’s roots in California and the decision to establish its European base in Luxembourg: “We are quite like the spirit of Silicon Valley; we found a similar spirit here in Luxembourg. Initially we built a company in California, but then soon after we started sales of our products, we found out that most of the customers we had back then, in 2010, were from Europe.”
He explained how the company initially considered Switzerland for its European presence, due to previous experience “running business” there. However, a positive meeting with Luxembourg officials highlighted the benefits of doing business in the Grand Duchy. “[When] we came to Luxembourg, we understood that [it] was - and still is - bearing the spirit of a Californian innovative place. For us this was important. We considered Switzerland and California to be alike in that sense […] And we found the same spirit here in Luxembourg: many nationals inhabiting next to each other and the goal of the country to make an innovative transformation, to bring minds, to bring expertise, to bring startups [to] the country. And we liked this spirit, so we [decided] not to go to Switzerland but to go to Luxembourg.” He added that it was easier to address the European market from Luxembourg in terms of operations due to its membership of the European Union.
Sergey Sukhovey also spoke about the company’s strategic focus: “We have an expertise in building scanners and writing software for capturing the world and we want to extend it to this development because we see market demand and we see the future in this area. We understand that the 3D printing market is a really big and interesting one, but in terms of diversification, we think that we would want to build more technologies for seeing the world and preserving the world, making digital copies of the world, rather than spreading our resources in different directions. So, we would want to [stay] focused for broader developments within our area of expertise.”
Paul Hanaphy, Content & PR Manager, thanked the media for attending and helping to “get our message across about our products […] so we can tell the people of Luxembourg a bit more broadly about what we're doing here”. He told Chronicle.lu: “We're really happy to be based here. On all the scanners we make here, we put a little stamp that says ‘Made in Luxembourg’ and it has the small logo of the lion's head. […] Next week we’re heading to Formnext in Frankfurt, the biggest 3D technology expo there is. We're preparing to launch a new version of our software that is designed to be very accessible. It's designed to allow people even to capture a 3D model with their smartphone - you can create a 3D model from photos or videos from any device and create a really realistic looking model. We think that it will open new avenues to people, everyday people, not just engineers […] It's a really cool product, we're looking forward to bringing it to market”.
In addition to its headquarters in Senningerberg, Artec 3D has offices in Santa Clara, California (US), Tokyo (Japan), Shanghai (China), Bar (Montenegro) and Lisbon (Portugal). The company serves clients worldwide across approximately fifteen industries.
