On Saturday 1 August 2026, the Grand Ducal Police carried out roadside alcohol checks at the request of the State Prosecutor, in accordance with Article 12(3), paragraph 8, of the amended Law of 14 February 1955 governing road traffic on all public roads.

According to the police, the checks were undertaken from 05:00 and 07:00 on the Rocade de Bonnevoie (B3), between the A. Bousser Tunnel and Gluck roundabout in Luxembourg City, and from 08:00 to 10:00 on Route d'Esch (N56A), between Boulevard Pierre Dupong and the Rue de Merl roundabout in Luxembourg City on Saturday 1 August.

During the checks, a total of 373 motorists were required to undergo a preliminary breath test, even where there were no obvious signs of alcohol impairment.

Six drivers returned positive breath test results and police officers issued four official reports and two on-the-spot fines. One driving licence was confiscated as part of the four official reports.

During the operation, one person was also stopped while driving without holding a valid driving licence.

In addition, eight on-the-spot fines were issued for various traffic offences.

Additionally, at approximately 00:52 on Saturday, a police patrol on the A6 motorway near the Capellen service area, travelling towards Belgium, spotted a vehicle being driven in a pronounced zigzag manner. Officers stopped the vehicle and carried out a breath test on the driver, which returned a positive result.

On the instructions of the State Prosecutor's Office, the driver's licence was confiscated.

Moreover, at around 06:30 on Saturday, police were called to a road traffic collision on Rue Jean-Pierre Brasseur in Luxembourg-Belair. According to the initial findings, the driver lost control of the vehicle for reasons that have not yet been determined and crashed into a car parked at the roadside. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were no longer roadworthy.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for further treatment. A breath test carried out on the driver also returned a positive result and the driver's licence was confiscated.
