Luxembourg Police to Host International Facial Reconstruction Training

The Grand Ducal Police has announced that it will host an international facial reconstruction training course at its Verlorenkost premises in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie, taking place from Monday 3 to Friday 7 August 2026.

According to the police, the training follows the specialisation of two forensic officers from the Judicial Police Service, who spent several weeks in the United States (US) in 2025 training with experts in facial reconstruction as part of their continuing professional development.

The police explained that facial reconstruction is used during criminal investigations when a victim can no longer be identified. They noted that the technique is currently mastered by only a small number of police experts in Europe, including the two Grand Ducal Police officers. The force also stated that it operates Europe's first official in-house police facial reconstruction unit.

The training will bring together officers from the Benelux countries, the Greater Region and Abu Dhabi. It is being organised on the initiative of the Grand Ducal Police with the support of Joe Mullins of the George Mason University School of Forensic Science in Fairfax, Virginia, US.

According to the police, the aim of the training is to equip participants with facial reconstruction techniques so they can develop in-house expertise within their respective police services.
