On Friday 24 July 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity and the Nature and Forest Agency reported that a person had been seriously injured after a tree branch fell on them while they were walking in the municipal forest of Berdorf.
According to the authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday 23 July 2026 in the afternoon, when a branch suddenly broke off from a tree and struck the person. The injured person was taken into the care of the emergency services.
The authorities noted that forests are living natural environments where certain inherent risks cannot be excluded, particularly during periods of heat and drought intensified by the effects of climate change. They explained that these conditions can weaken trees, meaning that even those which appear healthy may conceal risks that are not visible from the outside.
The Nature and Forest Agency invited forest users to be cautious and recalled the following recommendations:

remain vigilant when walking in forests, particularly after severe weather or long periods of drought;

choose open areas away from trees when taking breaks during walks;

stay on marked paths and trails;

strictly respect temporary closures and the safety measures that have been put in place.
