On Thursday 30 January 2025, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (CoC), together with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Luxembourg Embassy in Tokyo, announced the organisation of three official trade missions to Japan for World Expo 2025 Osaka.
Under the official theme of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, Expo 2025 Osaka is expected to offer Luxembourg a unique opportunity to position itself as a reliable partner in addressing the global challenges of the future.
Expo 2025 Osaka will be held from Sunday 13 April to Monday 13 October in Yumeshima, an artificial island in Osaka Bay in Japan. It is expected to attract 28 million visitors from 160 countries.
The Luxembourg Pavilion, under the theme “Doki Doki – The Luxembourg Heartbeat” will offer Luxembourgish hospitality in a Japanese environment to visitors
The three organised missions, OSAKA 1, 2 and 3, will present an opportunity to connect with global business leaders, establish strategic partnerships and explore potential collaborations with counterparts from Japan and worldwide.
OSAKA 1: “Official Trade Mission to Japan” is a multi-sectoral mission. It will take place from Saturday 24 to Saturday 31 May 2025 in Tokyo and Osaka and will feature company visits in both cities, guided visits to the World Expo site, VIP access to the Luxembourg pavilion, an official networking reception and “a chance to explore the unique economic and cultural advantages of Japan”.
OSAKA 2: “Space Mission” is an official trade mission focused on the space sector and will take place from Saturday 12 to Friday 18 July 2025, in both Tokyo and Osaka. It will feature company visits in Tokyo, pre-arranged B2B meetings, guided visits to the World Expo, a Space Days event at the Luxembourg Pavilion and an official networking reception.
According to the Chamber of Commerce: “Both Japan and Luxembourg are big in Space. Building on the memoranda of understanding and memoranda of cooperation signed last year between Luxprovide and Jaxa, as well as the LSA and Jaxa, the space mission to Japan aims to provide further networking opportunities between actors of the ecosystem as well as an opportunity to explore even further the possibilities that the space sector holds through an interactive and instructive space event at the Luxembourg pavilion.”
OSAKA 3: “Tech & Health Mission” is an official trade mission dedicated to the ICT, Fintech, Robotics, AI & Healthcare sectors, taking place from Monday 14 to Saturday 19 July 2025 in both Osaka and Tokyo. This mission will feature sector-specific company visits in Osaka and Tokyo, pre-arranged B2B meetings, guided visits to the World Expo, an official networking reception and a cultural visit.
The Chamber of Commerce noted that “Japan's leadership in digital health reflects the country's unique blend of technological innovation, ageing population and proactive approach to healthcare challenges. Japan is increasingly establishing itself as an internationally important production and research location for innovative pharmaceutical products and is currently the second largest pharmaceutical market in the world. The area of digitalisation and ICT is particularly promising. On the one hand, there is a lot of catching up to do here, but on the other, the Japanese government is providing strong support. In IT, Japan’s advantage is in its network infrastructure, one of the most advanced in the world. Having this environment in place provides a huge tailwind propelling innovation on the Internet of Things (IoT). Japan has built an environment that supports the quest for innovation through collaboration among industry, academia and the government. The Japanese government is also making great efforts to encourage innovation through the growth of the startup industry.”
