On Wednesday 15 July 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy announced the launch of two calls for projects to support charging infrastructure and zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles.

According to the ministry, during the “electric sessions” organised by Klima-Agence as part of the Klimapakt fir Betriber, Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, announced the launch of two new calls for projects aimed at supporting the energy transition of businesses in the field of heavy-duty vehicles.

The announcement follows two previous calls for projects, for which he also presented the results: one dedicated to charging infrastructure for heavy-duty vehicles, the other focused on the acquisition of zero-emission heavy-duty road vehicles.

Minister Delles stated: “The strong participation in these calls for projects demonstrates the effective commitment of a wide range of stakeholders from many sectors, including Luxembourg’s transport, logistics and industrial sectors, to decarbonisation and strengthening our resilience in the face of external energy shocks. To further accelerate this momentum, we have decided to launch two new calls for projects: one for heavy-duty vehicle charging infrastructure, and the other for trucks equipped with clean propulsion technologies.”

Two new calls for projects will open from Monday 20 July 2026 to Friday 18 September 2026.

Firstly, a call for projects relating to zero-emission heavy-duty road vehicles, with a budget of €10,000,000 divided into three lots, will be launched:

•            Lot 1: category N2 trucks, with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of more than 3.5 tonnes and less than or equal to 12 tonnes;

•            Lot 2: category N3 trucks, with a MAM of more than 12 tonnes and less than or equal to 28 tonnes;

•            Lot 3: category N3 trucks, with a MAM of more than 28 tonnes.

This division into three lots, and in particular the subdivision of category N3, is based on lessons learned from the first call for projects, which highlighted that support requirements vary depending on vehicle tonnage.

Secondly, a new call for projects dedicated to private charging infrastructure for category N2 and N3 trucks will be launched. With a budget of €4,000,000, it will focus exclusively on deploying charging infrastructure within companies to support their transition towards zero-emission trucks.

As a next step, by the end of the year, an additional call for projects will be launched to support the deployment of large publicly accessible charging hubs dedicated to heavy electric commercial vehicles along the main motorway routes. The objective is to contribute to establishing a European fast-charging network enabling electric trucks to travel efficiently throughout Europe.

Moreover, beyond this progress regarding trucks, another call for projects is planned for early 2027 covering all types of charging infrastructure, with the aim of strengthening Luxembourg’s charging network more generally for all types of vehicles.

Following the seventh call for projects providing financial assistance to companies investing in charging infrastructure projects dedicated to heavy-duty vehicles, sixteen projects out of the 21 applications received for the installation of charging infrastructure were selected. These projects represent a combined capacity of 18,120 kW. The budget allocated to the call, amounting to €5,000,000, was fully used, demonstrating companies’ interest in support for the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles.

At the same time, the first call for projects dedicated to the acquisition of zero-emission category N2 and N3 heavy-duty vehicles was completed with the aim of supporting companies in electrifying their fleets. The selected projects cover a diverse range of economic stakeholders and demonstrate the sector’s commitment to sustainable mobility. A total of 23 projects out of the 37 applications received were selected, corresponding to 56 vehicles and public funding representing total aid of €5,151,941.31.

The ministry said the results of these two recently completed calls demonstrated the growing commitment of economic stakeholders towards the decarbonisation of heavy-duty transport and confirm companies’ strong interest in these support schemes.
