On Tuesday 14 July 2026, Luxembourg's Roads and Bridges Administration announced road surface renewal works on the A1 motorway between the Gasperich and Hamm interchanges, scheduled to take place from Friday 17 July at around 21:00 until Monday 20 July 2026 at around 04:00.

During this period, traffic will operate in both directions on the same carriageway between the Gasperich and Hamm interchanges with the speed limit reduced to 70 km/h, and to 50 km/h in the Howald Tunnel.

According to the authorities, access at the Gasperich interchange will also be restricted, with several slip roads temporarily closed and diversions put in place.

The closures will affect the A1 towards Trier between the Gasperich and Hamm interchanges, the slip roads from the A3 to the A1 towards Trier and the slip road from the A1 towards Trier to the A3 towards Luxembourg City.

Motorists travelling on the A3 and wishing to join the A1 towards Trier will be diverted via the A6 towards Belgium, the Cessange interchange, the A4 towards Hollerich, the Merl roundabout, the A4 towards Esch-sur-Alzette, the Cessange interchange and back onto the A6 before rejoining the A1 towards Trier.

Drivers travelling on the A1 towards Trier who wish to join the A3 towards Luxembourg City will be diverted via the Hamm interchange, where they will be able to make a U-turn before returning to the Gasperich interchange and continuing onto the A3.

The authorities added that preparatory works to change the motorway traffic layout will begin several hours before the main works start, with traffic disruption expected from late Friday afternoon.
