On Thursday 2 July 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth published the results of the 2026 summer session of the secondary school leaving examinations, revealing an overall pass rate of 74%, up from 73% in 2025.
A total of 3,925 candidates sat the examinations, comprising 2,209 female and 1,716 male candidates. Overall, 2,910 pupils passed, while 17% were postponed and will have to sit one or more additional examinations in September 2026. The failure rate fell from 10% in 2025 to 9% this year.
According to the ministry, the published results reflect the 2026 summer session after the supplementary examinations. They cover public and private secondary schools following the Luxembourgish curriculum, the second qualification pathway (evening classes and eBac), as well as the Schengen-Lyzeum in Perl.
The results showed that the pass rate for classical secondary education stood at 82%, down slightly from 83% in 2025. The postponement rate increased from 11% to 12%, while the failure rate remained unchanged at 6%.
In general secondary education, the pass rate increased from 66% to 68%. The postponement rate fell from 21% to 20%, while the failure rate decreased from 13% to 12%.
A comparison by sex showed that young women outperformed young men in classical secondary education, recording a pass rate of 83% compared with 80%. On the other hand, young men achieved a higher pass rate in general secondary education, at 71%, compared with 66% for young women.
The ministry also reported that 179 pupils received an "excellent" distinction, awarded to those achieving an overall average of at least 52 points. Of these, 144 were in classical secondary education and 35 in general secondary education, representing 6% of all successful candidates.
