Chronicle.lu recently reached out to various Luxembourg-based book club organisers to learn about their different groups; this week’s focus will be on the American Women’s Club of Luxembourg (AWCL).

The American Women's Club of Luxembourg reported that it has four English-language book clubs. These are open to the club’s members. Membership costs €60 per year and is open to any English-speaking international woman – the club reportedly has over 30 nationalities.

The meetings for each club take place monthly at the AWCL Clubhouse near Parc Merl.

These book clubs focus on literature, with options to fit different schedules and interests. For example, the “Daytime Book Club” takes place over coffee or tea, aiming to allow members to share insights and personal interpretations freely and to bond with like-minded, book-loving individuals.

The “Evening Book Club” was created for those with busy daytime schedules, aiming to provide a space to explore literature, "unwind over a glass of wine" and enjoy the company of other book enthusiasts.

The AWCL “Cookbook Club” is an “opportunity for food lovers and culinary explorers to combine reading with the pleasures of gastronomy”. This club explores different flavours, cultures and cuisines through specially selected cookbooks. This is also a place for “culinary experiments” where members can “enjoy the results together”.

Lastly, the AWCL also offers a “Book Club for Non-Native English Speakers” who wish to enhance their English language skills while exploring literature across different literary genres. According to the organisers, this is an opportunity to enhance one’s vocabulary and to “celebrate storytelling in an inclusive and diverse environment”.
