This year’s winner of the “Kinder- und Jugendbuchautorenresidenz” (Resident Children’s Book Author) is the German author Kathrin Schrocke, the creator of “Struwwelpippi kommt zur Springprozession” (“Struwwelpippi comes to the dancing procession”).
Kathrin Schrocke writes children’s books under the pseudonym of Amina Paul. The jury responsible for chosing the winners of this competition noted Kathrin Schrocke’s unconventional and sometimes controversial issues of her children’s books.
This event had been announced in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Luxembourg, the Centre national de literature and the Ville d'Echternach. The event offered a varied programme (readings, discussion evenings, etc.) which included the author meeting primary school pupils in Echternach.
Kathrin Schrocke studied German and Psychology at the university in Bamberg, Gemany. In addition to her work as a press officer and a lecturer in adult education she completed a correspondence course in children's literature in Vienna. Since 2003 she has worked as a freelance writer. In 2012 she received the award “Bestes Jugendbuch international” (Best International Youth Book) during the Book Fair in Krakow, Poland. She was also nominated for the 2011 Deutschen Jugendliteraturpreis (German Youth Literature Prize).
The fifteenth “Kinder- und Jugendbuchautorenresidenz” will be held from 9 May to 5 June 2016. Any author of an already published German children’s book can apply regardless of age and nationality.
