Chaired by the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social and Solidarity Economy, Nicolas Schmit, the Economic Committee yesterday analysed the job market situation in July 2017 as well as the current economic situation in Luxembourg.
For the month of September 2017, the number of applications stagnated compared to the previous month. A total of nine companies have applied for partial unemployment in order to benefit from the provisions of this measure within the next month. Having analysed the files submitted, the Economic Committee decided favourably on all the requests, and the final decision on whether or not to grant this support to companies temporarily confronted with a difficult economic situation incumbent on the Governing Council.
In the companies concerned, it is expected that out of a total of 968 employees, 294 employees will work on a reduced schedule. The expenditure incurred by the Employment Fund for the month of September 2017 shall be €344,000 so that all the undertakings concerned benefit fully from the partial unemployment schemes granted.
The Business Conduct Committee issued a positive opinion in relation to one request for tax exemption of voluntary dismissal indemnities pursuant to section 115 (10) L.I.R. relating to the eligibility of a person in the undertaking concerned.
In addition, the Economic Committee issued positive opinions in relation to the statutory pre-retirement-adjustment provisions concerning 24 salaried workers. The Committee proposed to the three applicants a participation rate in the form of early retirement.
The next meeting of the Economic Committee is set for 27 September 2017.
