On Monday 20 April 2026, Luxembourg’s employment agency, ADEM, reported that 20,491 resident jobseekers were available for work at the end of March 2026, while the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6.3%.
The number of available resident jobseekers increased by 1,588 people (+8.4%) compared to March 2025. As in previous months, highly qualified jobseekers were particularly affected, with a rise of 17.4%. From an age perspective, the most notable increase was observed among those aged 30 to 44 (+10.1%).
Trends in the types of jobs sought remained consistent with recent months, with the most significant increases recorded in secretarial and administrative support, IT and accounting roles.
The number of new registrations of resident jobseekers rose by 3.2% year-on-year, with 2,805 residents registering in March 2026, compared to 2,718 in March 2025.
The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits decreased by 7.1% over one year to 10,068. As of 31 March 2026, 1,530 resident jobseekers undergoing professional redeployment received a waiting or professional waiting allowance (+0.9% year-on-year). The number of resident beneficiaries of employment support measures stood at 4,445, representing a slight decrease of 0.8%.
Moreover, ADEM recorded 4,354 non-resident registered jobseekers at the end of March 2026, representing a 25.4% increase over one year. Among them, 55.9% held external professional redeployment status and were eligible for financial assistance under the same conditions as residents; this category increased by 12.9% year-on-year. The second category of non-residents consists of individuals who voluntarily register as jobseekers without receiving financial support. This group accounted for 1,919 people (44.1% of non-resident jobseekers), marking a sharp increase of 45.8% compared to March 2025.
A total of 989 non-residents registered as new jobseekers in March 2026, representing an increase of 17.5% year-on-year. Among non-residents undergoing external professional redeployment, 1,039 received full unemployment benefits (-7.4%), while 1,786 received waiting or professional allowances (+6.2%).
In March 2026, employers declared 3,983 job vacancies to ADEM, representing an increase of 18.8% compared to March 2025. The total number of available vacancies stood at 7,517, up 10.2% year-on-year. The strongest increases were recorded in warehousing and goods handling, industrial cleaning and paramedical care roles.
Two sectors in particular contributed significantly to the rise in vacancies: wholesale and retail trade, as well as professional, scientific and technical activities, notably in warehousing and order preparation and in auditing and accounting control.
