On Friday 20 March 2026, Luxembourg’s employment agency, ADEM, reported that 21,038 resident jobseekers were available for work at the end of February 2026, while the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6.3%.
The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM as of 28 February 2026 stood at 21,038, an increase of 1,578 people (+8.1%) over one year. As in previous months, highly qualified jobseekers were particularly affected (+16.0% year-on-year). Developments were more evenly distributed across age groups, with increases of around 8% among those under 30, those aged 30 to 44 and those aged 45 and over.
Trends in the types of jobs sought remained similar to recent months, with the most significant increases recorded in secretarial and administrative support, IT and accounting roles.
The number of new registrations of resident jobseekers rose slightly: 2,553 residents registered in February 2026, up 1.6% compared to February 2025.
The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits fell by 9.7% over one year to 10,234. As of 28 February 2026, 1,632 resident jobseekers undergoing professional redeployment received a waiting or professional waiting allowance (+7.7% year-on-year). The number of resident beneficiaries of employment support measures stood at 4,449 (+0.5%).
Moreover, ADEM recorded 4,246 non-resident registered jobseekers as of 28 February 2026, representing a 24.5% increase over one year. Among them, 56.8% held external professional redeployment status and were eligible for financial assistance from ADEM under the same conditions as residents; this category increased by 10.9% year-on-year. The second category of non-residents consists of individuals who voluntarily register as jobseekers without receiving financial support. This group accounted for 1,834 people (43.2% of non-resident jobseekers), marking a sharp increase of 48.5% compared to February 2025.
A total of 904 non-residents registered as new jobseekers in February 2026, representing an increase of 21.7% year-on-year. Among non-residents undergoing external professional redeployment, 1,086 received full unemployment benefits (-0.7%), while 1,808 received waiting or professional allowances (+7.8%).
In February 2026, employers reported 3,371 job vacancies to ADEM, down 3.2% compared to one year earlier. The total number of available vacancies stood at 6,810, representing a decrease of 5.4% year-on-year. The largest declines were recorded in accounting, finishing trades, and secretarial and administrative support roles.
