According to ADEM, Luxembourg's employment agency, the number of resident jobseekers available for work as of 31 January 2023 stood at 15,801, bringing the unemployment rate to 4.9%.

The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM at the end of January 2023 (i.e. 15,801 jobseekers) represented an increase of 331 people (i.e. 2.1%) over one year. The increase applied to all periods of unemployment, with the exception of people registered with ADEM for more than twelve months.

The unemployment rate, adjusted for seasonal variations, calculated by STATEC, thus stood at 4.9% at the end of January 2023 (up from 4.8% at the end of December 2022).

The number of new jobseeker registrations was also on the rise: 2,893 residents registered with ADEM during the month of January 2023, an increase of 534 people (i.e. 22.6%) compared to January 2022. Among these figures were 90 registrations from beneficiaries of temporary protection (i.e. refugees from Ukraine).

The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefit increased by 370 people (i.e. 4.9%) over one year, to 7,961.

The number of beneficiaries of an employment measure stood at 4,107 and was below the level observed in January 2022 (a decrease of 191 people, or 4.4%).

During the month of January 2023, employers declared 4,266 vacancies to ADEM, which corresponds to an increase of 4.5% compared to January 2022. The total number of available positions stood at 10,988 at the end of January 2023, i.e. an increase of 2.0% over one year.
