The Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Trades have presented a joint proposal for six measures in favour of better social protection of the self-employed with a view to ending the crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This proposal is based on the two professional chambers being able to submit bills to the Government which the latter in turn submits to the Chamber of Deputies.

In a still uncertain health and economic context, the two professional chambers consider it more than ever necessary to stimulate entrepreneurship and act in favour of entrepreneurship given their importance in the Luxembourg economy and society.

They have therefore proposed a revaluation of the status of the self-employed which involves an attenuation of the inequalities which currently exist between the status of self-employed and that of employee concerning the coverage of "social risks", which are at the origin of the loss of employment income, either provisional or definitive.

The proposal includes six measures which concern both social security law and labour law. These proposals were developed in close consultation with the UEL and the various employers' federations.
