The employment figures for Luxembourg at the end of July 2015 were released on Monday morning and show the rate of unemployment has remained steady at 6.9%, compared to both May and June 2015; 12 months ago (July 2014) the unemployment rate was 7.3%.
June is traditionally the month with lowest unempoyment of the year, with July showing an increase with school-leavers and university graduates registering before finding employment.
The total number of people unemployed in the Grand Duchy at 31 July 2015 rose to 17,536, compared to 16,833 the previous month. The unemployment rate of 6.9% compares to an decrease of 567 people registered as unemployed twelve months ago (18,103).
In July, 1,935 people registered with ADEM as being unemployed and looking for work, of which 692 were doing so for the first time, compared to 2,029 in July 2014 (729 new).
The number of people benefitting from full unemployment benefit was 7,145, down 5.2% from 12 months ago, but up from 6,713 at the end of June. Meanwhile, the number of people benefitting from partial unemployment benefits was 5,502 at the end of July 2015, down 79 since June but up 11.1% in 12 months.
A total of 2,387 vacant job positions were declared to ADEM, the unemployment agency, during last month.
