The ALEBA banking union has reiterated its position on the introduction of the CovidCheck system in the workplace.

Regarding the upcoming new regulations on the implementation of the CovidCheck "3G" (vaccinated, recovered or tested) system, which will become an obligation for companies in Luxembourg, ALEBA confirmed that its point of view remains unchanged.

The union recalled that it considers that the implementation of CovidCheck in the workplace is "becoming essential", but argued that this should be "done without neglecting the interests of ALL employees: no one should be discriminated against or stigmatised". ALEBA thus called for alternative solutions to be offered at work to employees who cannot provide a valid CovidCheck certificate, stressing that those concerned should be able to "have free access to their place of work, be tested for free in [their] company and they cannot under any circumstances be made redundant":

Moreover, the banking union expressed its continued support for social distancing, barrier gestures and the wearing of masks which, along with vaccination and teleworking, it deems to be part of the solutions to fight the spread of COVID-19. The union also stressed the importance of the extension of fiscal and social agreements with Luxembourg's neighbouring countries.

In this regard, ALEBA has called for the governments of Luxembourg and border countries to allow non-residents to work at home for up to two days per week without fiscal or social constraints. The union argued that the past two years have demonstrated the "efficiency and flexibility of teleworking".

Finally, ALEBA has requested a meeting with the Luxembourg government to establish viable post-health crisis uses and calls on governments to establish border agreements in line with societal challenges.
