Luxembourg's Prime Minister and Minister of Media and Communications, Xavier Bettel, gave his backing on Tuesday to the next phase of evolution of LU-CIX, Luxembourg's Internet Exchange.
Speaking at the Luxembourg Internet Days event at the Chambre de Commerce in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, Xavier Bettel, explained that Luxembourg is changing from an IT nation to a digital nation, and that it will become more critical in the years to come as a cross-industry initiative and will support it in its next stage of development.
Earlier in the day, Marco Houwen stated that LU-CIX is an independent carrier with 60 members and is looking at ways to expand and with whom to partner for future growth.
The Luxembourg Chronicle talked with Claude Demuth, CEO at LU-CIX, who explained that, up to now, LU-CIX has been operated more on a voluntary basis and it needs to turn professional to see in the digital nation properly. One of the projects foreseen will enable Luxembourg Internet traffic stay local, instead of bouncing internationally, and another will address the issue of security more actively. While Minister Bettel has pleged the government's firm support, it is not yet clear in which way this support will materialise. In any case, the members of LUX-CIX will also be supporting LU-CIX 2.0 by combining their strengths and expertise.
