Luxembourg non-profit organisation Women in Digital Empowerment (WIDE) has announced that it is organising an online event on the subject of "Women and HPC" (High Performance Computing) on Monday 7 February 2022, from 12:30 to 14:00.
HPC is used to solve complex problems in science, engineering, business and industry. However, there are very few women in these fields. WIDE stressed that in addition to this sector looking for talent in Luxembourg, it is important to spread the word about the use and potential of HPC among the general public.
Topics to be addressed during this online event include: what is HPC, what skills are needed to work in this field, why diversity is important and what the European Commission is doing about it. This event will be a panel discussion, with time for exchange between the guests and a question and answer (Q&A) session.
Panel Speakers:
- Josephine Wood, Senior Programme Officer at EuroHPC Joint Undertaking
- June Lowery-Kingston, Head of Unit "Accessibility, Multilingualism & Safer Internet" at the European Commission
- Diem Bui, Solution Engineer at Supercomputing & Data Solutions team at LuxProvide
- Ramona Caulea, in charge of the Competence Center HPC at Luxinnovation
The panel will be preceded by a speech by Franz Fayot, Luxembourg's Minister of the Economy.
"It seemed appropriate for us to organise this event in order to give a voice to the women who participate in the development of HPC and to inform a wider public, especially women, about the challenges of HPC", explained Marina Andrieu, Director and Founder of WIDE.
