Last Thursday, the nyuko Eskills for Women programme, offering technical courses for women aged 27-52, came to an end with a closing event attended by Minister of Labour, Employment and Social and Solidarity Economy, Nicolas Schmit.
The Minister warmly congratulated the fifteen participants, emphasising the importance of certain aspects covered by the programme, including digital skills, female employment and entrepreneurship.
The eSkills pilot initiative, organised by Nyuko under the European eSkills for Jobs programme, was supported by the JPMorgan Chase Foundation and ADEM as a means of meeting the current needs of the Luxembourg market.
As the number of women in the digital sector remains low, the programme aimed to contribute to equal opportunities, as well as showcase Luxembourg to the international market by stimulating the digital, ICT and e-commerce sectors.
The course covered programming, web SEO, web design as well as communication on social networks, web marketing and business project creation and job searches conducted in interactive working groups.
Carole, a jeweller-in-training, commented: "Jewellery is my core training but I'm also very interested in new technologies. This programme allowed me to do both and helped my to launch my online shop".
For Marie-Paule, the programme was an important opportunity to reimmerse themselves in the labour market after a long career break, which she took in order to give her time to her children. "I now have the technical skills to position myself and I have to say that the immersion in the nyuko environment makes me think more and more about business creation".
The pilot event was deemed a success, with the second edition of the programme already announced for 2016.
"We received over thirty nominations for the first session: the choice was difficult because the participants were all very motivated," explained Marina Andrieu, Project Coordinator at nyuko. "Ten women have already expressed interest in joining the next session of the programme."
