From Thursday 23 to Saturday 25 October 2025, Golf-Club Grand-Ducal will represent Luxembourg at the European Men’s Club Trophy in Bordeaux, France, following their victory in the national interclub championship.

In the 2024 edition, the Luxembourgish team finished sixteenth out of 24 participating clubs. Building on that experience, this year’s line-up features Lenny Mines, Jens Buch and Nicolas Winandy, under the guidance of coach Michaël Altmeyer.

Ahead of their departure for the competition, Chronicle.lu spoke with the team’s players about their preparations, experience and expectations for the tournament.

At 46, Jens Buch is the most experienced player in the squad, having played golf for more than 30 years. “During university I didn’t play very much, but I took it back up properly in 2020 after selling my tech company,” he explained. “Now I’m practically living like a professional. I practise every day on and off the course, work with a stretching coach and a physical trainer. My goal is to qualify for the European senior tour when I turn 50.”

Commenting on the upcoming tournament, Buch noted that the team was “highly motivated”, adding: “We’ve played this competition before and we know the course quite well. We’re really looking forward to it."

Speaking about the course in Bordeaux, he described it as “quite long, especially at this time of the year”, and said that wet weather conditions could make it even more demanding. “You’ve got to really hit it quite a long way off the tee,” he said, identifying long, accurate tee shots as one of the main challenges.

Team member Nicolas Winandy shared his outlook on the event and the team’s mindset. “It’s very hard to say we want to be in the top five, top three or maybe to win this event, because it depends on so many things this week. So I think I can speak for the whole team - we just want to have fun, enjoy this week, learn as much as we can and give our best to make Luxembourg happy.”

He added: “I think I can speak for Lenny too. We have the chance to play with Jens Buch in our team this year, because I don’t know if you know it, but he’s the national champion of Luxembourg and he practises so hard to be in this position. So Lenny and me, we watch him and we want to practise and be motivated at this age - it’s so amazing.”

Lenny Mines said: “I started to play more when I was about twelve, and now I live in the south of France where I play for a club, but I also play for this team. For this tournament, I just want to have fun with the team, because there’s such a great atmosphere. We’re going to enjoy it.”

The European Men’s Club Trophy, where the Grand-Ducal team will compete this week, is one of the European Golf Association’s oldest tournaments. The event, established in 1975, brings together around 24 national champion clubs, each represented by three players competing over three rounds of stroke play. The two best daily scores count towards the team total. France’s RCF La Boulie remains the most successful club in the competition’s history, with seven titles.
