The Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF) has announced a national team squad for the upcoming FIFA 2026 World Cup qualification away matches in November against Germany and Slovakia.
After the first two matches in Group A, Jeff Strasser’s team have yet to register a point and currently sit at the bottom of the table. Slovakia lead the group with six points, followed by Germany and Northern Ireland with three points each.
Christopher Martins returns to the squad, having been called up for the opening matches but forced to withdraw due to injury. Sébastien Thill also features in the list, whilst Mica Pinto is absent. The squad includes a first call-up for Progrès Niederkorn striker Kenan Avdusinovic.
Head coach Jeff Strasser has called up 24 players, including goalkeepers Lucas Fox (FC Bocholt, Germany), Anthony Moris (Al-Khaleej, Saudi Arabia) and Tiago Pereira (Borussia Mönchengladbach, Germany). Among the defenders are Dirk Carlson (St Pölten, Austria), Eldin Dzogovic (Magdeburg, Germany), Laurent Jans (SK Beveren, Belgium), Seid Korac (Venezia, Italy), Enes Mahmutovic (NAC Breda, Netherlands), Marvin Martins (FC Winterthur, Switzerland), Vahid Selimovic (FC Hermannstadt, Romania) and Eric Veiga (Flamurtari, Albania).
Midfield options include Leandro Barreiro (Benfica, Portugal), Florian Bohnert (SC Bastia, France), Tomás Cruz (Benfica, Portugal), Christopher Martins (Spartak Moscow, Russia), Mathias Olesen (Greuther Fürth, Germany), Olivier Thill (FK IMT Belgrade, Serbia) and Sébastien Thill (Stal Rzeszow, Poland). In attack, Strasser has selected Kenan Avdusinovic (Progrès Niederkorn, Luxembourg), Yvandro Borges Sanches (Heracles Almelo, Netherlands), Alessio Curci (Neftchi Baku, Azerbaijan), Aiman Dardari (FC Augsburg, Germany), Edvin Muratovic (Odra Opole, Poland) and Danel Sinani (St Pauli, Germany).
In an interview with Chronicle.lu, Strasser commented on the new call-up of 27-year-old Kenan Avdusinovic: “The reason why we chose Ken is to bring in an interesting offensive player who started this season with six goals in six games. Last year he scored seventeen goals in 23 matches, making it 23 goals in 29 games overall. Based on his performances and statistics, he deserves to join the group for these next two games.”
Reflecting on the challenge ahead, Strasser noted: “We know that it is a tough group with Germany and Slovakia, but in the last games against Slovakia and Northern Ireland we showed that we are capable of achieving positive results. Each game has its own story, and we must use the possibilities when we play away.”
On the team’s last outing, he added: “If you analyse the game, the statistics and the chances created, normally you never lose it. But in football everything is possible. We have to take the positives, avoid small mistakes and be more clinical in the opponent’s box.”
Luxembourg will face Germany on Friday 10 October 2025 at 20:45 at the PreZero Arena in Sinsheim, followed by Slovakia on Monday 13 October 2025 at the City Arena in Trnava.
