Following Saturday's 0-1 home defeat in a tight game (both teams had 11 attempts on goal and possession was almost 50-50) to Serbia, when Vlahovic scored in the 68th minute, Luxembourg's national football team were outclassed 5-0 by Portugal in Faro in the Algarve, in a European Qualifying Group A match for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo got a hat-trick on the night, opening the scoring with a penalty in the 8th minute and then scoring his second just five minutes later. His team-mate for both club and country, Bruno Fernandes, scored the home side's third goal after 18 minutes, with Joao Palhinha adding the fourth mid-way through the second half before Ronaldo got his hat-trick with just three minutes left on the clock. 

Portugal totally outclassed the Grand Duchy on the night, recording a total of 21 attempts on goal, compared to just three from the visitors. 

Serbia tops the group on 17 points; Portugal are one point back on 16, yet have a game in hand. Luxembourg retains 3rd place: thie next game is away to Azerbaijan on 11 November, with their final game at home to the Republic of Ireland on Sunday 14 November.
