Following their shock exit from European football two years ago at the hands of F91 Dudelange, Glasgow Rangers managed to overcome this year’s UEFA Europa League 2nd round qualifier opponents, Progrès Niederkorn, at the Stade Josy Barthel in Luxembourg city on Thursday evening.

Led from the dugout by former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard, Rangers brought a 2-0 first-leg result from last week’s game at Ibrox in Glasgow, Scotland, into the end leg. Although yesterday’s game ended 0-0 on he evening, and 2-0 on aggregate in favour of Glasgow Rangers, Scott Arfield came closest to scoring for the visitors, with the home side rarely threatening.

Rangers now meet Midtylland in the 3rd round qualifiers with games on 8 and 5 August.

Meanwhile, Jeunesse Esch lost 5-0 on aggregate to Portuguese side Vitoria SC, after a 4-0 away defeat on Thursday evening, leaving Dudelange the lone Luxembourg side left in the competition; they play Nõmme Kalju of Estonia in the 3rd qualifying round.
