On Thursday 18 July 2019, Cork City defeated Progrés Niederkorn 2-1 in the first qualifying round for this season's UEFA Europa League; however, the Luxembourg side go through to the next round 3-2 on aggregate after scoring a 2-0 away win in Ireland last week.

Garry Buckley, with a stunning volley, and Conor McCarthy with a second half header, scored for the visitors, with 17 year-old Issa Bah scoring with his first touch with 22 minutes left on the clock. The 1,900 crowd suffered a nervy last quarter of the game, but Progrés Niederkorn held on to go through on away goals.

In other matches, Jeunesse Esch drew 1-1 away to Tobol (Kazakhstan) and 1-1 on aggregate, going through on the away goals rule, and CS Fola of Luxembourg lost 2-1 away to Chikhura of Georgia (4-2 on aggregate).

Progrés Niederkorn will play Glasgow Rangers in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League after the Scottish side recorded a 10-0 aggregate win over St Joseph's of Gibraltar; Rangers will be out for revenge after being dumped out of the competition 2 years ago by Niederkorn. Jeunesse Esch will face Vitória Guimarães of Portugal in the second qualifying round.​
