Progrés Niederkorn came away from Ireland on Thursday evening with a wholly-deserved 2-0 away win in their first leg UEFA Europa League 1st qualifying round against Cork City, with the return leg set for next Thursday in the Grand Duchy.

At the match at Turner’s Cross in the outskirts of Cork city, Belim Muratovic and Mayron De Almeida (penalty) scored in the first half to put a stranglehold on the tie. Niederkorn’s forwards pounced on a defensive lapse to open the scoring, with Colm Horgan adjudged to have brought down the lively De Almeida inside the penalty box. To make matters worse for the home side, Karl Sheppard missed a penalty in the first half.

Should Progrés Niederkorn overcome Cork City over the two legs, they will most likely play their second round tie against Glasgow Rangers who earned a 4-0 first leg win against St Joseph's from Gibraltar.

Meanwhile, CS Fola lost 1-2 at home to Chikhura (Georgia) and Jeunesse Esch drew 0-0 at home to Tobol (Kazakhstan) in their UEFA Europa 1st round 1st leg matches.
