A Luxembourg co-production, Peter & Wendy, is to screen this Saturday 26 December 2015 (Boxing Day) at 20:00 on ITV1, in this lasted screen adaptation of J.M Barrie's book based on the boy who never grew up, and the magical world of Neverland.
This version of the story is a rip-roaring family adventure to be screened over two hours. Luxembourg's Juliette Films was involved in the co-production along with Catalyst Global Media and Headline Pictures as well as Canal+.
This version establishes a dramatic connection with Great Ormond Street, the world famous children's hospital that has become irrevocably associated with Peter Pan. The story is retold through the imagination of a young girl named Lucy who is about to receive hospital treatment for a serious heart condition. This is Lucy's version of Peter Pan, the startling fantasy of a brave, imaginative and utterly modern young girl who fears her illness might mean that she, like Peter Pan, may never grow up. Lucy dreams this version of Peter Pan into existence after reading the novel late on the night before her operation, when her weakened heart is already beginning to fail. This is why she identifies with it so deeply, why her imagination works upon it so powerfully - and why we care so much about her story.
Directed by Diarmuid Lawrence (The Hanging Gale; The Lady Vanishes; Emma) and starring Stanley Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada; The Hunger Games; The Terminal; The Fifth Estate) as Captain Hook, Laura Fraser (A Knight's Tale; The Man in the Iron Mask; Castles in the Sky) as Julie, Paloma Faith (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus; St. Trinian's) as Tinker Bell, Zak Sutcliffe (in his first role) as Peter Pan, and Hazel Doupe (Ripper Street (tv film) and Jack Taylor: Shot Down (tv film)) as both Lucy and Wendy Darling.
