
On Tuesday 29 July 2025, Viktoria Productions announced that Luxembourgish-German actress, Vicky Krieps, will appear at two of Europe’s most prestigious film festivals in August 2025: the 78th Locarno Festival and the 82nd Venice Film Festival.
The actress will appear at the festivals to promote Yakushima’s Illusion by Naomi Kawase, which will have its world premiere at the Locarno Festival, and Father Mother Sister Brother by Jim Jarmusch, which is competing in the official selection at the Venice Film Festival.
Yakushima’s Illusion is co-produced by Viktoria Productions, the production company founded by Vicky Krieps, alongside Japanese, French and Belgian partners. It is the latest feature film by Japanese director Naomi Kawase. The film will have its world premiere on Friday 15 August during the International Competition at the Locarno Festival, which takes place from Wednesday 6 to Saturday 16 August 2025.
The film is competing for the Golden Leopard (Pardo d’Oro), the Special Jury Prize, the Leopard for Best Direction (Pardo for Best Direction) and the Leopard for Best Performance (Pardo for Best Performance), alongside films by Radu Jude, Abdellatif Kechiche, Ben Rivers, Fabrice Aragno, Ivana Mladenović, Sho Miyake, among others. The jury will be chaired by Cambodian filmmaker, screenwriter and producer, Rithy Panh.
Vicky Krieps will also feature in Jim Jarmusch’s new film Father Mother Sister Brother, which will be presented in the official competition at the 82nd Venice Film Festival from Wednesday 27 August to Sunday 6 September 2025. It features an international cast including Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling, Mayim Bialik, Indya Moore, Sarah Greene, Luka Sabbat and Françoise Lebrun.
The film, competing for the Golden Lion, is co-produced by MUBI, Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, The Apartment (Fremantle), CG Cinema, Cinema Inutile and Hail Mary Pictures, with support from Screen Ireland, Les Films du Losange, Weltkino, Cofiloisirs and Three Point Capital.
