On Monday 24 October 2022, the Regional Tourist Office (Office Régional du Tourisme - ORT) of the Mullerthal Region - Luxembourg's Little Switzerland, celebrated its 15th anniversary.
As early as 1992, the European Tourism Institute Trier suggested in their strategic tourism concept for the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg the creation of a regional tourism structure which should operate between the ministry of tourism and the Office National du Tourisme on the national level and the local tourist offices.
Until 2007, the "Entente des Syndicats d'Initiative et de Tourisme de la Région Mullerthal - Petite Suisse Luxembourgeoise et Basse Sûre" operated in the region with two regional tourism coordinators.
The Regional Tourist Office of the Mullerthal Region – Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland was founded on 24 October 2007 in Echternach. The first "ORT" board meeting was held on 21 November 2007, presided by the first ORT president, André Hartmann.
Founding members were the municipalities of Beaufort, Bech, Berdorf, Consdorf, Echternach Larochette, Mompach, Nommern, Rosport and Waldbillig. Member organisations were the "Entente des Syndicats d'Initiative et du Tourisme", the "Regional Initiativ Mëllerdall" (as forerunner of the Natur- & Geopark Mëllerdall), the HORESCA, the Camprilux, the "Association pour la Promotion du Tourisme Rural" and the Youth Hostels of Luxembourg. Luxembourg's ministry of tourism, the ministry of culture and the Office National du Tourisme (now the Luxembourg for Tourism) were granted an observer status on the Board of Directors.
The tasks of the newly founded ORT were the marketing of the region as a tourism destination, the protection and valorisation of the natural, cultural and historical heritage, the development of a regional tourism concept, the coordination of activities and events in the region, the creation of new touristic products, the cooperation of regional tourism stakeholders and cross-border cooperation.
