Luxembourg's Environment Agency has announced the publication of its 2019-2020 inspection report on chemical products.

In 2020, following the massive and unprecedented use of disinfectant products, the Environment Agency paid particular attention to these products. Controls are carried out on a regular basis to ensure that the products used and sold in Luxembourg comply with regulations. Following a statement of offence and depending on the situation, an administrative fine may be imposed.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for disinfectant products has increased sharply, among both private individuals and professional players. In order to ensure that the population has access to effective and safe products, the chemical substances and products unit of the Environment Agency paid special attention to disinfectants for hands and surfaces, belonging to the family of biocidal products.

Agents checked 39 stores and service providers providing disinfectant products since March 2020. 151 violations were found. Most of these infringements resulted in corrective administrative measures, namely prohibition of making a product available on the market, the return of products to the supplier or the elimination of the goods.

In addition to the administrative measures, agents issued ten administrative fines, amounting to a total of €25,000.
