On Thursday 28 January 2021, Luxembourg's Minister of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, Carole Dieschbourg, presented the third national plan for sustainable development.
The national plan for sustainable development is Luxembourg's main instrument for implementing the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These seventeen ambitious goals are strategic milestones for fighting extreme poverty and reducing inequalities while preserving the planet in the face of climate change and the loss of biodiversity.
The ten priorities of the national plan for sustainable development will serve as the government's roadmap to act and contribute concretely to the achievement of the objectives of Agenda 2030 and ensure sustainable development in Luxembourg.
These priorities are as follows: guaranteeing social inclusion and education for all; ensuring the right conditions for a healthy population; promoting sustainable consumption and production; diversifying and ensuring an inclusive and forward-looking economy; planning and coordinating land use; providing sustainable mobility; stopping the degradation of the environment and respecting natural resource capacities; protecting the climate, adapting to climate change and providing sustainable energy; contributing to the global eradication of poverty and to the coherence of global policies for sustainable development; guaranteeing sustainable finances.
Further details are available in the new brochure "Prepare and preserve the future" (Préparer et préserver l'avenir), the first part of which also outlines ten concrete actions in which individuals can engage to contribute to sustainable development. These are: energy savings, soft mobility, minimising waste, no plastic bags, environmentally friendly food, local shopping, responsible purchases, equal pay, political mobilisation and sharing interesting initiatives.
The second part of the publication presents the international and national frameworks for sustainable development and proposes a text making the link between sustainable development and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The brochure will be published on www.emwelt.lu, as well as on the www.bne.lu site dedicated to sustainable development education, accessible through the virtual gateway www.agenda2030.lu which brings together various sites devoted to sustainable development in Luxembourg.
