On 16 September 2015, President of the Council of Ministers of the Environment, Carole Dieschbourg, will be received in Vatican City by Pope Francis.
The Minister will head a delegation of twenty Environment Ministers to deliver a united message to the head of the Catholic Church, with the intention of discussing the encyclical of Pope Francis on the environment, the challenges of the climate conference and the Special Summit on Sustainable Development to be held in New York in late September.
The meeting with Pope Francis was organised by the Italian government and will be held as part of preparations for the 21st United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Paris this December. The visit forms part of a framework of meetings with political and civil society actors participated in by the Minister of the Environment ahead of the portentous meeting at the year's end.
In preparation for Paris, the mandate of the European Union for the climate conference will be adopted at the Brussels Council Meeting of Environment Ministers on 18 September 2015.
