Luxembourg's Ministry of Energy and Spatial Planning has announced the substantial strengthening and restructuring of its Department of Energy, with effect from 1 March 2020.

The Department of Energy's existing “Renewable energies” and "Energy markets" directorates, under the direction of Georges Reding and Marco Hoffmann respectively, will retain their missions but have been strengthened. Pascal Worré has been put in charge of the “Energy efficiency” directorate.

The Department of Energy has also created a new directorate “Sustainable construction and circular economy”, for which Dr. Paul Schosseler has been responsible since 1 March 2020 .

In addition, the vacant post of government commissioner for energy has been reassigned: Dr. Simeon Hagspiel has joined the management team and is responsible for the missions defined by related legislation, including in the field of security of supply.

With these new appointments, the Department of Energy, under the direction of the general coordinator, Olaf Münichsdorfer, government adviser, will now employ 24 people. The Department will mainly focus on the following activities: the rapid development of renewable energies, the acceleration of electromobility and the digitalisation of electrical networks, the national programme in the field of energy efficiency and renovation as well as the development of the circular economy.
