On Thursday 3 December 2015, British Ambassador to Luxembourg, Alice Walpole, arrived at the International School of Luxembourg (ISL) to pay a visit to the Rainbows and Brownies after-school groups.
The British Ambassador was greeted by ISL Director, Nicki Crush; Lower School Principal, Patricia Angoy; and former District Commissioner, Kim Clarke, before heading up to see the Rainbows, a group dedicated to girls between the ages of 5 and 7. Alice Walpole chatted with the girls, asking them about their plans for Christmas as they learned how to make 'Reindeer Food' with oats and other ingredients.
Ambassador Walpole then joined the Brownies who were in the process of making Christmas baubles for the festive season, with the Ambassador praising the mix of nationalities in the room.
The British Ambassador was asked to be a patron for ISL's Girl Guiding groups when she arrived in Luxembourg and as, as she explained, "you need to have an active relationship with them", she has since organised and been part of a range of events. These have included last year's Brownies 100th anniversary celebration, when the group buried a time capsule and held a tea party; and the Great British Girl Guiding Bake Off, at which over 80 members of British Guiding in Luxembourg were in attendance to present different varieties of sweet treats.
Both events were held at the Ambassador's residence, a point reflected in Kim Clarke's words thanking Alice Walpole for all the support she had provided the group with over the years, before presenting her with a gift.
"It has been absolutely amazing, the support has been incredible," the District Commissioner commented. "You have literally opened up your home to us."
