A student budget survey conducted in spring 2015 by TNS-ILRES has resulted in adaptations made to the system of State financial aid for higher education.
On Thursday 3 December 2015, Secretary of State for Higher Education and Research, Marc Hansen, presented the projected adjustments to the financial aid system for further education to representatives of the Association des cercle d'étudiants luxembourgeois (ACEL). The presentation followed multiple exchanges of views that Marc Hansen and the ACEL have held, drawing on the investigation conducted by TNS-ILRES, as well as the figures for financial support in the 2014/2015 academic year, with a view to adapting the current system.
The solution eventually proposed would see a package comprised of substantial increases in the social grant and the mobility grant. These measures would aim to strengthen elements of social selectivity in current financial aid system and alleviate the difficulties faced by students in financing their housing in foreign university towns. Other elements of state financial aid for higher education would remain unchanged.
In 2014/15, 25,594 students received scholarships for higher education according to a STATEC report published in October.
