On Wednesday 2 December 2015, the School Medicine Division of the Luxembourg Ministry of Health held the 4th National School Health Day, during which multiple issues in the health and well-being of a child were brought to light.
Preservation the health of children, the early detection of potential risks and the optimal treatment of diseases at the earliest age were cited as necessary factors in instigating position impacts on the society of the future, both at the public health and socioeconomic levels. Problems highlighted included epilepsy, ADHD syndrome, issues related to social paediatrics and child poverty.
The Ministry stated that health experts, social scientists and economists have all been unanimous in the view that the health and well-being of the younger demographic of society means investing in public health in general and positively impacts the prosperity of tomorrow's society.
Children themselves came together for this day to illustrate the importance of healthy youngsters, with fifty 4-12 year olds and two teenagers from various asylum shelters of the Luxembourg Red Cross holding the surprise show 'Et ass net gehoppst wéi gesprongen!' for an audience of health and education professionals.
The day brought together school medical teams, specialists, teachers, psychologists, SPOS and specialised education representatives, ministries and associations working with young people, aiming to develop close collaboration between the different actors in a move towards better school health.
